Believe it or not, Denver is a fantastic place to golf. The season may be short, running from April through October, but the options are endless. With a variety of courses ranging from urban greens to majestic mountain courses, it can be hard to decide where to tee up. Here are the best local golf courses to visit the next time the green is calling you.

Green Valley Ranch golf club

Located between downtown Denver and the airport, Green Valley Ranch has options for golfers of every level. Beginners can work on their form and approach at the 9-hole par-3 course, while more experienced golfers can hone their game on the 18-hole championship course where the Colorado Opens are held.

The Ridge at castle pines golf club

The Ridge at Castle Pines Golf Club is a top-shelf public option just around the corner from the famous and private Country Club at Castle Pines. The 18-hole course located just south of Denver in Castle Rock has expansive rolling greens and features water hazards and other interesting challenges. Make sure to take a break to enjoy the stunning views of Pikes Peak and Devil’s Head.

The Dunes at riverdale dunes

Built in the 1980s in a Scottish-links-type layout, The Dunes is one of two 18-hole courses at Riverdale. Play through the many undulating mounds and take on challenging elements including tall native grasses and water hazards. You’ll feel like you’re golfing in Scotland only with better weather and much better course conditions!

Set among spectacular red rocks in the Rocky Mountain foothills just south of Denver, Arrowhead Golf Club is one of the top Denver golf courses, as well as one of the top 75 public courses in the nation. The course is extremely picturesque, being surrounded by a forest preserve teeming with wildlife.

Commonground golf club

Free caddies and great value make CommonGround Golf Club one of the most popular Denver golf courses. The par-71 golf course is a mix of parkland and links that is walkable, and on a clear day you can see Mt. Evans, Longs Peak and the Denver skyline in the distance. CommonGround also offers a beginner-friendly short course and practice facility.

East course at the broadmoor resort & golf club

If you’re up for taking a short drive outside the city, head to Colorado Springs, which is just over an hour south of Denver to The Broadmoor Resort & Golf Club. The entire posh resort is historic and offers plenty to see and do, however East Course is a golfer’s dream. Known for its wide, tree-lined fairways and expansive greens, East Course is ranked among the best golf courses in the country. The challenging terrain and large trees add an extra challenge for even the most experienced golfers.
